Dr (Mrs) Nirmala T Manikantan

Dr.(Mrs) Nirmala Tutakne Manikantan is an alumnus of AFMC Pune and served in the IAF for 32 years, prior to taking premature retirement in Mar 2021, She has a DNB (Family Medicine) from National Board of Examinations and a Fellowship in Diabetes Management from CMC Vellore. In 2015, she was selected to undergo a Medical Logistics course in San Antonio, Texas US.

Brought up in an Army family, she did her schooling at different locations. She has served in a number of Air Force bases and hospitals across the length and breadth of the country and has been actively involved in the case of Aircrew and families. Post-marriage she has successfully balanced the responsibilities of being an IAF Medical Officer, a doting mother and an active member of the AFFWA. She has worked effectively as President AFFWA(L), as Member Executive Committee and Vice President AFFWA(R), EAC.

She is a voracious reader and is also interested in Yoga and Gardening. Women’s health, geriatric care and upliftment of women are her passions. Going forward, she intends to work for the underprivileged and has recently been selected to the Advirsory Board of an NGO in this field.

Married in 1962, she is blessed with two children – Astrit is an alumnus of IIT Bombay who is now working in the USA and Abhishree is a lawyer working in Delhi.
