VENTURES AFFWA HQ
Café Urja (AFFWA Kitchen) is a recent initiative by AFFWA HQ to provide restaurant services with the help of Sanginis towards promoting the welfare of the families of Armed forces. The venture has created various job opportunities for Sanginis and has inculcated entrepreneurial qualities in Sanginis. Subsidized ‘food thalis’ are provided to the office going personnel in the vicinity of Café Urja.
MUDRAN is a Block Printing initiative by the Air Force Families Welfare Association with the sole aim of skilling and empowering the Wives of the Air Force personnel and Veer Naris.
Hand Block Printing is an essential part of India’s rich art & textile heritage and MUDRAN offers a touch of heritage, artistry and elegance through its products proudly made in India by Indian Air Force Wives.
Vayan is a welfare initiative by the Air Force Families Welfare Association for the empowerment of the Air Force Ladies and Veer Naris. It’s an outcome of the monumental Knittathon drive; a special knitting project under which the ladies of the Indian Air Force knitted a total of 41,541 woollen caps for the underprivileged. This rare feat was one of its kind and the Association was awarded with the World Record under the category of ‘Largest display of Hand Knitted Caps’.
Sashakt Sangini has been carved out with the aim of empowering Sanginis with vocational skills. Various artistic and creative products are made by processing natural raw material into economical and eco-friendly finished products. These products are marketed through all AFFWA (L) thrift shops and valued by customers for quality & design.
Children are affected in some way or the other when parents are in a transferable job. To meet the needs of children when their parents are posted out and they need to stay back because of their education, AFFWA Hostels proves to be a great boon for them. AFFWA provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls at various Stations. These hostels are located inside the campus and ensure safe and hygienic living. Good quality food and security arrangements are provided to the children.
AFFWA not only promotes skill development of Sanginis but also work towards shaping the future of our country by contributing towards providing basic education facility to under privileged children. Umeed Vidya Kiran schools run by AFFWA provide informal education to the underprivileged children staying in the Air Force camps. The children of servants, casual labourers and villagers nearby are taught in these schools. These schools are up to the primary level.
To facilitate the welfare of the families of air warriors posted across the nation, AFFWA runs 113 playschools, which gives the toddlers’ preschool facilities in places where other preschools are not available. The play schools are run by AFFWA where tiny-tots taught play way learning before joining the formal school. .
For the welfare and development of the differently-abled children, AFFWA runs special schools under the name of Umeed Asha Kiran Schools. These schools impart life skills to our special children. These schools have special educators who help the children in their educational, social, physical and mental growth. These schools are also equipped with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, sensory and speech therapy infrastructures.
UMEED Vocational Training Centre at Subroto Park for the differently abled was opened on 01 Sep 2005 with the aim of providing vocational training for the differently abled children. The aim is to make them self-reliant and confident. UMEED offers vocational training to young adults of the age group 18 to 25 years in various skills like handloom, paper crafting, candle making, painting, and home management.
